Company History
Founded in California, USA, in 1989, CE Engineering began by providing third-party hardware maintenance and support for Tandem Computers Inc. based newspaper publishing systems sold under the System Integrators Inc. (SII) badge. These fault-tolerant systems were once used by leading news organisations such as The LA Times, The Financial Times, PA News, Reuters, Die Welt, and Le Monde to manage editorial and advertising content.
As the company grew, CE Engineering developed a software alternative to the proprietary and very costly SII Coyote editorial terminal. In early 1997, CE (USA) joined the Tandem Alliance Partner Program and later that year became a Tandem Value Added Reseller. Following Tandem’s merger with Compaq, CE (USA) became a Compaq Reseller in February 1998.
To support its growing international presence, CE Engineering (Europe) Ltd. was established in March 1996, based in the United Kingdom. Its mission was to provide third-party support and sales for Tandem systems, focusing on core markets such as banking, finance, insurance, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications, and defence. This marked a strategic shift away from the parent company's focus on the newspaper publishing sector.
In June 2000, CE Engineering (Europe) Ltd. completed a successful management buyout, becoming fully UK-owned. As the company expanded beyond Europe, it rebranded in 2002 to CE Engineering (International) Ltd., reflecting its entry into the global marketplace.
In 2015, CE Engineering strengthened its strategic position by becoming an official HP Partner, supporting HP’s European operations with logistics for NonStop legacy products.
Most recently, in August 2025, the company name was simplified to CE Engineering Ltd., aligning the brand with its streamlined global identity.
With over 30 years of experience in supporting and selling Tandem Computers (now HPE NonStop servers), CE Engineering remains a dedicated HPE NonStop / Tandem Computers specialist, committed to keeping these systems running reliably throughout their operational life.
